10:45 AM – 12:15 PM: Practical Strategies for Assessing Medication Use in the Older Adult

Presented by Suzanne Turner, Pharm.D., Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Lee Memorial Health System

 

Hypermedication is a growing problem amongst older adults. Learn factors that place the older adult at risk for medication errors and pharmoacokinetic patterns that may be altered in older adult patients. Classes of medication having a high potential for toxicity in the older adults will be specified, reasons for non-compliance will be discussed, and educational strategies to prevent non-compliance will be presented.

Learn techniques to help families overcome denial, deal with enabling, and overcome the "Dependency Triangle". Understand how simple family sculpting can recreate the family system.
