This Certificate Program prepares students to work with people who are dependent on drugs and/or alcohol to guide their treatment and recovery.

This Certificate Program consists of nine classroom courses teaching the latest in substance abuse treatment knowledge and three “hands-on” counseling courses. This Certificate Program fulfills all educational requirements for all levels of Florida Certification Board’s:
•Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS)
•Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC)
•Certified Addiction Professional (CAP)
Addiction Certification for the Licensed Professional
The Florida Certification Board has established criteria for professionals licensed under Chapters 458, 459, 490, or 491 of the Florida Statutes (Physicians, Medical Professionals, Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists) to also be credentialed as a Certified Addictions Professional. The educational requirement for this additional credentialing is 145 hours of addiction specific education in the two Transdisciplinary foundations. Florida Addictions Institute provides this education through the following courses:
SAC 101 30 hours Substance Abuse: Causes and Treatment
SAC 102 30 hours Pharmacology: Effects of Drug Dependency on Brain, Body, and Behavior
SAC 103 30 hours Substance Abuse: A Family Problem
SAC 107 30 hours Diagnosis: Crucial First Step
SAC 104 Counseling: Approaches for Substance Abusers
